Career and Academic Background

As a Mining Engineer, Marco has worked as a consultant and leader in Operations and Technical Services for various mining companies, and assuming various responsibilities as a mining engineer, senior mining engineer, technical service manager, mine manager, mine development manager and project manager. He is an operations and planner specialist having worked for more than 22 years in the mining industry for diverse stages from Concept Evaluations in mining projects, Pre Feasibility and Feasibility Studies, Basic Engineering, Construction and Development, Engineering, Mine Operations, Quality Control, Process Improvements, Increase Efficiency and Productivity based on KPI’s.

Marco has worked in diverse mine projects and mine operations located in Peru, Mexico, Argentina, Nicaragua, Canada, the United States of America, and the Democratic Republic of Congo. He has experience performing operational transformations, operations integration, operation improvements, safety improvements, and cost reduction.

Marco has a BSc. and Eng. of Science in Mining Engineering from Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Peru, and Master of Science in Mining and Earth System Engineering from Colorado School of Mines, Colorado, USA.

  • Participation in important projects such as Tambomayo in Peru for Cia. Minas Buenaventura (US$ 362 million). Basic engineering study of Immaculate for Hochschild Mining Plc. (US$ 505 million), Concept Study of Penasquito in Mexico, Goldcorp Inc., (US$ 750 million). Basic engineering study of Riscos de Oro in Nicaragua, Calibre Mining Corp. (US$ 105M). Concept study of Kamoa-Kakula in the Democratic Republic of Congo for Ivanhoe Nickel & Platinum Ltd. (US$ 1.2 billion), and others.
  • Principal in Mining Engineering Latinoamerica (RIVO Consulting). Provides multidisciplinary engineering and design services for underground and open pit mining projects across all stages of development. Carry out due diligence studies, preliminary economic assessments, scoping, pre-feasibility, feasibility and detailed engineering studies.
  • Technical Services Manager (Minera Triton Argentina). Implement successfully a technical-economic analysis in planning tasks, LoM elaboration and annual budget considering technical analysis according to the exploitation methods, restructure geomechanic area and implement controls and monitoring with equipments, standards and reports. Implement operational kpi´s, modified design blast patterns to improve ore fragmentation, and continuous improvements for cost reduction.
  • Mine Manager of Tambomayo Underground Mine Project (Compania de Minas Buenaventura, Peru). Forecasting and planning for DTH and main decline to increase reserves and resources, improvements in main decline advance modifying drill pattern in headings, implement ground support standards and ventilation area.
  • Corporate Manager of Mine Development (Hochschild Mining Plc.). Purpose alternatives in all Hochschild´s operations (Peru, Mexico and Argentina) in both open pit and underground and implement them to improve and optimize diverse mining processes such as drilling, blasting, loading and hauling, ground support, backfilling, ventilation, etc., implement the use of emulsions to replace dynamites to improve ore fragmentation in narrow veins.
